This season, we are thrilled to announce we are 10 years BOLD!
For the past decade, we’ve circled the globe to bring you works that challenge and inspire, dazzle and provoke. On stage and on screen, in our downtown venues and in neighborhoods all over greater Boston, our goal has been to inspire connection across our differences and discover all we have in common.
And we know we are not alone. Over and over, you’ve told us how important it is to have a place to connect with diverse cultures and communities, and art that takes us places—both deep within ourselves and entirely outside of our own experience.
At ArtsEmerson, we aim to make theater accessible and affordable to broader, more diverse audiences in Boston, and are dedicated to engaging people and communities that have traditionally felt unwelcome in the theatre. We bring performances and related activities to neighborhoods, offer multiple ways to connect with the work, and provide access to artists and our staff. The results cross economic, geographic, and cultural borders, fostering a more connected, inclusive and vibrant city.
This is how we got to be 10 years BOLD. With the support of committed, growing, and diverse audiences from all over the region and our commitment to the life of the city, we have pushed those boundaries and dared to dream that art has a central role in creating the world we seek.
For this celebratory season, we wanted audiences to have a chance to see five signal works that contributed to our evolution and to feel the exciting possibilities of scale and ambition that our rapid rise has enabled. We’re offering ten titles for our tenth season. Five are returning audience favorites from the first nine seasons that together reveal the path we’ve traveled from start-up to anchor institution. And five are ArtsEmerson commissions making their debuts on the international touring circuit that stretch us, both the company and the audience, and gain new ground in the story of ArtsEmerson, setting the table for another decade of bold, international programming that helps us explore the world and discover our own.
Your continued support—and your advocacy on our behalf—are the soil in which we sow our dreams. Thank you for making plans to be with us this 10th anniversary season. We hope you will help us spread the word about what it feels like, and what it means, to be a part of the ArtsEmerson community.
